Article One | Professionalism
Adherence to Laws & Regulations
A tarot professional will maintain awareness of and comply with all applicable laws, including local statutes, municipal codes, and data privacy laws such as GDPR and CCPA. This includes ensuring lawful collection, storage, and use of personal information provided during readings or interactions with clients.
Scope of Practice
The tarot professional uses tarot for spiritual guidance, not as a means of predicting the future or uncovering hidden knowledge with certainty. Tarot readings serve to empower the client rather than to provide fortune-telling or medical, financial, or legal advice.
Role of the Tarot Professional
The tarot professional helps clients align with their spiritual journey and empowers them to make decisions consistent with their personal beliefs. Tarot readings should promote personal insight, emotional clarity, and self-reflection.
Limitations & Boundaries
A tarot professional shall not diagnose health conditions, provide financial guidance, or offer legal advice. If the professional lacks relevant qualifications (e.g., medical, psychological, or legal credentials), they must refrain from offering advice in these areas and refer clients to qualified professionals when necessary.
Referrals to Qualified Professionals
If a reading touches on health, legal, or financial matters, even tangentially, the tarot professional will refer clients to appropriate specialists.
Responsible Rejection of Future Requests
If a client shows signs of using tarot readings as a substitute for professional mental health care, the tarot professional must recommend appropriate support and decline future reading requests until the client seeks qualified assistance.
Integrity in Representation
The tarot professional will not claim access to supernatural powers or guarantee specific outcomes. Misleading advertising, fraudulent practices, or misrepresentation of abilities, qualifications, or certifications are strictly prohibited.
Consent Regarding Third-Party Inquiries
Clients requesting readings about third parties must confirm that they have obtained the third party’s consent. The tarot professional should document this assurance but may focus inquiries on how the client’s situation may be influenced by others.

Transparent Fee Structure
Fees and payment terms must be clearly communicated before any reading begins. Any fee over $500 USD must be agreed upon in writing.
No Pressure for Additional Services
Clients must not be pressured into purchasing additional services. A tarot professional cannot claim to manipulate outcomes through supernatural means or use deceptive practices to compel further purchases.
Referral Fees Disclosure
If referral fees are exchanged, the tarot professional will disclose the arrangement to the client.

Duty to Protect Client Privacy

Reasonable Safeguards

Confidential information may only be disclosed to prevent serious harm or comply with lawful requests such as court orders.

A tarot professional should continually develop their skills by attending classes, workshops, and conferences. Engaging with other professionals and staying informed about industry developments ensures continued growth and adherence to high ethical standards.
