Mission

A tarot professional upholds the highest ethical standards in all services rendered, fostering trust within the tarot profession. The practice of tarot is intended to empower clients by helping them connect with their intuition, spirituality, and creativity. This Code of Ethics aligns with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act) standards, ensuring transparent, respectful, and responsible treatment of client data and personal information.

Article One | Professionalism

Adherence to Laws & Regulations

A tarot professional will maintain awareness of and comply with all applicable laws, including local statutes, municipal codes, and data privacy laws such as GDPR and CCPA. This includes ensuring lawful collection, storage, and use of personal information provided during readings or interactions with clients.

Scope of Practice

The tarot professional uses tarot for spiritual guidance, not as a means of predicting the future or uncovering hidden knowledge with certainty. Tarot readings serve to empower the client rather than to provide fortune-telling or medical, financial, or legal advice.

Role of the Tarot Professional

The tarot professional helps clients align with their spiritual journey and empowers them to make decisions consistent with their personal beliefs. Tarot readings should promote personal insight, emotional clarity, and self-reflection.

Limitations & Boundaries

A tarot professional shall not diagnose health conditions, provide financial guidance, or offer legal advice. If the professional lacks relevant qualifications (e.g., medical, psychological, or legal credentials), they must refrain from offering advice in these areas and refer clients to qualified professionals when necessary.

Referrals to Qualified Professionals

If a reading touches on health, legal, or financial matters, even tangentially, the tarot professional will refer clients to appropriate specialists.

Responsible Rejection of Future Requests

If a client shows signs of using tarot readings as a substitute for professional mental health care, the tarot professional must recommend appropriate support and decline future reading requests until the client seeks qualified assistance.

Integrity in Representation

The tarot professional will not claim access to supernatural powers or guarantee specific outcomes. Misleading advertising, fraudulent practices, or misrepresentation of abilities, qualifications, or certifications are strictly prohibited.

Consent Regarding Third-Party Inquiries

Clients requesting readings about third parties must confirm that they have obtained the third party’s consent. The tarot professional should document this assurance but may focus inquiries on how the client’s situation may be influenced by others.

Article Two | Communications

Reading Process Transparency

A tarot professional should clearly communicate their reading process, methods, and interpretive frameworks to clients. This promotes transparency and aligns with GDPR/CCPA‘s focus on informed engagement.

Disclosures to Clients

Clients will be informed that tarot readings are not substitutes for legal, medical, or financial advice. If required by local law, the tarot professional must notify clients that readings are for entertainment purposes only.

Confidentiality in Communications

The tarot professional must protect all personal information provided during readings and avoid sharing private client information without explicit consent, as required by GDPR and CCPA standards.

Article Three | Fees

Transparent Fee Structure

Fees and payment terms must be clearly communicated before any reading begins. Any fee over $500 USD must be agreed upon in writing.

No Pressure for Additional Services

Clients must not be pressured into purchasing additional services. A tarot professional cannot claim to manipulate outcomes through supernatural means or use deceptive practices to compel further purchases.

Referral Fees Disclosure

If referral fees are exchanged, the tarot professional will disclose the arrangement to the client.

Article Four | Confidentiality

Duty to Protect Client Privacy

All client information, including personal data collected during readings, will be kept confidential. The tarot professional must comply with GDPR and CCPA by implementing secure data storage practices and allowing clients to request data deletion or access upon request.

Reasonable Safeguards

Client data will be safeguarded using password protection and secure storage. In case of an unauthorized data breach, the tarot professional must notify affected clients promptly, in accordance with GDPR and CCPA.

Exceptions to Confidentiality

Confidential information may only be disclosed to prevent serious harm or comply with lawful requests such as court orders.

Article Five | Disclosures

General Practice Disclosures

The following statement will be clearly posted on websites, office locations, and other relevant platforms:

Disclosure Statement:
A tarot professional cannot predict the future with certainty. If your inquiry involves legal, medical, or financial matters, please seek the assistance of licensed professionals. Tarot readings are intended to support your spiritual journey and not replace professional services. In jurisdictions where required, you are hereby notified that tarot readings are offered for entertainment purposes only.

Certification Transparency

While certification is not required for tarot professionals, any certifications held will be disclosed, including the issuing body.

Article Six | Public Service

A tarot professional is encouraged to dedicate 10% of their annual practice to public service, such as charitable readings, educational initiatives, or volunteer teaching.

Article Seven | Continuing Education

A tarot professional should continually develop their skills by attending classes, workshops, and conferences. Engaging with other professionals and staying informed about industry developments ensures continued growth and adherence to high ethical standards.
